Description
Tourmaline is one of the most colourful gemstones in the world, available in virtually every shade of the rainbow. Its remarkable mineral complexity gives rise to this stunning variety of hues, making tourmaline one of the most versatile and sought-after gems.

In Sri Lanka, tourmalines are found in a rich spectrum ranging from yellowish-green to vivid bright green. Among the most notable are gems that blend the characteristics of Dravite and Uvite, often appearing in shades of brown, yellowish-brown, reddish-brown, or even near-black. When enriched with traces of vanadium or chromium, these stones can display a deep, luxurious green reminiscent of the finest tsavorite garnets.

While Uvite is rich in calcium, magnesium, and aluminium, and Dravite in sodium, magnesium, and aluminium, both are formed within limestone transformed by heat and pressure. These unique varieties are affectionately known in the trade as Savanna Tourmaline.

Sri Lankas most common brown and golden-brown specimens are found in Uva, Ratnapura, and Tissamaharama, while regions such as Lunugala, Bibile, Passara, Nilgala, Horana, Matugama, Pelawatte, Morawaka, Deniyaya, and Rakwana also yield impressive and collectible tourmaline crystals.

Vibrant, diverse, and full of character, Sri Lankan tourmalines are a true reflection of nature artistry and remain favourites among gem enthusiasts worldwide.
